Recycled Apple Tree

I enjoy finding new uses for things around the house. We always seem to have a pile of paper bags, which I love to use to crafts. Today we made an apple tree!!! Austin loves the book, Chicka Chicka 1 2 3, which is about numbers climbing up the apple tree. So we read the book and got crafting!

Here are the steps:

1. Cut a large trunk from a paper bag (I used all Trader Joes bags).
2. Cut smaller strips to form the branches, cut some of different widths and lengths.
3. Attach the trunk and branches with painters tape to the wall.
4. Draw an apple on a large index card, cut out.
5. Trace the apple as many times as you can fit on another paper bag, cut out apples.
6. Stack red tissue paper to form a pile and cut out the apple shape.
7. Let child glue and stick the red tissue apples to the paper apples.
8. Cut stems from green paper or cardboard, let child attach to apples.
9. Let child color the tree with brown markers or crayons.
10. Cut leaves from green paper.
11. Attach the apples and leaves to the tree using painters tape.

Stand back and look at what you just made from a paper bag!!! Pretty great, huh?
