Project Life

I have been thinking about doing Project Life now for about 2 years and I think I am finally ready to bite the bullet and try it. Project Life is a product and a system created by Becky Higgins. IT CAN BE ANYTHING YOU WANT IT TO BE. The basis of PL is a "scrapbook" but without all the hassle. You slide your photos and journaling cards (which can be purchased in a kit or cut to size from your paper stash) into divided page protectors that come in a variety of layouts. To find out more about this amazing form of memory keeping, and to view all the products click here.

Ok. So first things first. Please note that I have included links to some of my favorite products via Amazon on the bottom right. I will be adding more PL items soon.

In my research I have found that most people use it to document their life by week, creating a two page layout for each week. However, if this seems a bit unrealistic for you to keep up with, you can surely document monthly or even just whenever you feel like it! I have planned to try to record our lives weekly. I choose to do it by week simply because with young children I know I will not have a shortage of photos, artwork, or journaling of the funny things Austin says. I love the idea of cutting down a huge piece of artwork and sliding that in. You can include receipts, clothing tags, iPhone screen shots, papers from school, tickets and other memorabilia. And let's not forgot about the photos. That's the best part! With PL there is no glueing, no cutting (unless you plan to cut down pictures), no thinking about how to design each page. Project Life will save you time, money, and precious moments standing in front of a blank piece of card stock thinking, "What do I do now?" Sound appealing???? I think so. I will be starting my PL album in 2013. Until then, I will be preparing journaling cards, organizing a PL supply bin, and setting up my album. I will share all my progress here and will be doing weekly PL layout posts in 2013.

Will you take the Project Life challenge with me???? Now is the time. Do you have a box of photos sitting in your house? Do you have files of photos on your computer waiting to be printed? Do something now and write those memories down before you forget. That is the greatest gift we can leave  our children. Our legacy. Our memories. Our stories. Our love.

To start Project Life you will need: a 12x12 three ring album (I use this one purchased from Michaels with a coupon for $12), 60 PL divided page protectors TO START (this will not last you the whole year if you do a weekly documentation), corner rounder, journaling cards, and a pen. If you do not want to make or print your own journaling cards, I suggest you buy a core kit. This is $25 and includes all the filler cards for the entire year. There are a variety of designs to choose from and this would be the simplest way to use PL. If you do choose to get a kit, please look at the new designs on Becky Higgins that will be out in November.

Here are some journaling cards that I made a few weeks ago.

I started by cutting cardstock to 3x4.

Then I rounded the corners.

I have purchased a box of 100 blank journaling cards to use in the future, but I wanted to show you all how to made them "from scratch" in case you are feeling up to it! I also cut a few cards from kraft cardstock (the brown cardboard color). It was actually very simple.

After all my cards were made, I added a few doilies and stamped images. Super easy and the design possibilities are endless. I will be making more soon to share.
