Tell me a story...

Story Stones

I had made some counting stones for the kids a while back and they were a huge success. I thought about doing some with pictures but I stored the idea away in the way back of my brain. Then this summer while walking on the beach in Cape Cod, Austin and I started searching for funny shaped stones. I started thinking how perfect the stones would be for pictures. Many of the stones are smooth and flat which are perfect for painting. I also grabbed weird ones too, thinking of houses, rockets, trees, etc. I washed and dried all the rocks and laid them in the sun to dry. I used the basic, cheap acrylic paint from the craft store and sharpie marker for the face details. Above is the whole collection I painted. Below is a breakdown of the stories the stones belong to.

Goldilocks and the Three Bears
The solid colored rocks are used for both the bears beds and their chairs.

The Princess and the Pea

The colored stones are used as the mattresses and stack to make a colorful tower.

I am storing the story stones in this blue metal bucket. It is the perfect size, it's durable, and can be easily carried outside for playtime.
