it's pumpkin time

Straw Painting >>> A Pumpkin Craft

I have been wanting to try this idea and thought it would be super cute on pumpkins, and it was! The kids loved it...I was encouraging them to make a mess. Here are the steps so you can make a spotted pumpkin too:

Step 1: Grab a canvas (we used old ones that I purposefully wanted to re-use).

Step 2: Cover the entire canvas with glue.

Step 3: Lay strips of book pages (we used Harry Potter) over the glue to cover the entire canvas. Try to overlap some for a collage look.

Step 4: Lay the canvases somewhere to dry. While they dry move on to Step 5.

Step 5: Cut out a pumpkin from white paper. Paint it orange.

Step 6: Dip a straw into yellow and brown paint (separately) and while holding it over the pumpkin, blow the paint out. It took my kids a couple tries to realize they had to blow hard for the paint to splatter.

Step 7: Let the pumpkin dry. After it dries, glue the pumpkin onto the canvas.

I hung ours on the wall, together, in the dinging room. We put up a few Halloween decorations last night. I only did a few since this is a rental and we don't have much space. I will share some pictures of my decor soon.

Happy Saturday!
