one spoiled dog

I make homemade dog treats for our chocolate lab. She is spoiled. It is actually extremely simple and fun. Austin enjoys helping me and he basically cuts out all the shapes and puts them onto the cookie sheets by himself now. I thought I would share our process.

Homemade Dog Treats

1/2 cup corn meal
6 T olive oil
2/3 cup beef broth
2 cups whole wheat flour

**I always make a double batch**

Mix all ingredients together in a large bowl. The dough will be flaky and there will be some dry crumbs left at the bottom of the bowl, don't worry about those. Scoop the dough up and place on a pastry mat (I use a Pampered Chef pastry mat)or a floured surface. Kneed a bit to form a ball and then roll out.

Bake on greased cookie sheets @ 350 for 35-45 minutes depending on thickness. YOU WANT THEM TO BE HARD BUT NOT BURNT.

Apparently he can only work while wearing his robot backpack. He's just like his mommy...obsessed with Thirty One :)

We do a combo of shapes. I like the traditional dog bones but the flowers fit perfectly into a mason jar for gifts.

See...how cute? We went to a lobster bake and the couple has three dogs. I brought them some treats. They loved me. These doggy biscuits freeze really well so you could make them and save some for Christmas gifts. Just a thought...to remind you the Christmas will be creeping up on us soon.

Enjoy!
